ABOUT
I value the relationship between theory and practice, and I have a deep appreciation for the science of learning. I’ve worn many hats in education thus far, and they have all been grounded in providing high-quality, flexible, and innovative learning experiences for students, educators, and business leaders.
I have utilized my entrepreneurial spirit as Owner and Founder of Elizabeth Paushter Instructional Design & Coaching, providing progressive learning opportunities for organizations like the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute (OSWLI), and institutions like Northeastern University. In my work with OSWLI, I designed and facilitated full-day learning workshops for 300+ attendees, including local business leaders, teachers, and students; working with multiple stakeholders, such as the Executive Director, Director of Community Partnerships, and the Senator’s office, I fostered positive experiences for all constituencies. At Northeastern, I have collaborated with the faculty lead on an elearning course for faculty, Maximizing Impact: Creating Engaging Learning Communities through Learner-Centered Design; in addition, I have designed courses such as Integrating Service Learning in the English Curriculum, Dismantling Power Hierarchies in the Classroom, and Close Reading in the Digital Age.
Most recently, I have joined the incredible team at The Fletcher School at Tufts University, working with expert faculty in global affairs to provide our partners in the public and private sectors–from diplomats to business leaders–with innovative and high-quality learning experiences in climate, risk mitigation, and strategic leadership for impact. In addition to designing such programs, I collaborate on program management needs and facilitate workshops.
As Dana Hall School’s educational technologist, a leadership role, I designed and implemented a schoolwide 1:1 program, in addition to other long-term technology initiatives, such as the use of an LMS, digital courses, and online (and in-person) service-learning opportunities. I managed a team of thirteen faculty and structured a system of support and engagement in technology initiatives. In addition, I designed dozens of hours of motivating and engaging professional development opportunities for teachers, as well as fun and lively technology training for students. I enjoyed every moment of designing and implementing learning experiences in all subject disciplines–from English to Biology to Calculus to Mandarin–using project-based learning, backward design, and competency-based learning pedagogies. When designing the 1:1 program, I partnered with multiple stakeholders, including IT departments, administrators, board members, parents, teachers, and other schools. To me, the most successful and effective programs are built on strong relationships. And, the extensive data collection and analyses I provided for all stakeholders helped create trust and backing.
I spent sixteen years in the English classroom, working with students from around the world and with individual stories and needs. I designed new courses, such as a course about freedom in literature and a service-learning course about socioeconomic class disparities. In addition, I supported students by advising their Diversity Council and engaging as Pod Leader for the Association of White Anti-Racist Educators. At The University of Vermont, I collaborated with tenure professors on creating an inclusive English 1 curriculum and curation of stories, and I taught multiple sections to college freshmen and transfer students.
Every faculty’s (and student’s) needs are different, and I find it important to assist them in a path that is best for them. In my work as a leader in college counseling, I get to know each student, provide them with an understanding of the college and career landscape, and creatively guide them through their vision. I have found that my role as Senior Class Dean and Writing Center Director have utilized similar skills, all requiring innovative approaches and pedagogies to individual and collective learning.
Just as energizing has been my work as a manager of thirteen people. Having the opportunity to create a community of collaborators who find joy and inspiration in their everyday lives was a gift–true leadership, I believe, is setting clear objectives, benchmarks, and communication strategies while ensuring a safe, brave, and stimulating space.
I hold a Master’s degree in English from University of Vermont, a Master’s of Education in eLearning and Instructional Design from Northeastern University, & a Bachelor’s degree in English and Textual Studies from Syracuse University.
I live with my two little kids, husband, dog Daisy, and cat Charlotte just west of Boston!
